It is wonderful to continue to find images and writing about the Angel of Mons. After the initial identification of the angel as St. George, images and identities changed as the myth and legend developed. Soon, the angels became feminine. This corresponds with the role nuns who were also nurses became “angels” to the soldiers. Texts related to the angels are coming to light. There is a book of such newspaper accounts and sermons and letters soon to be published. I will write a review of it when it appears. Next week I will reprint a newspaper report about the angels that appeared in 1914.
